Showing appreciation for the maternal figures in your life doesn’t have to break the bank.
Whether the family is feeling crafty, active or artsy, here are three ideas for creative ways to spend Mother’s Day.
A farmers market card-crafting activity
Sunday, 10 a.m.-1 p.m.
Take the kids to the Cabin John Village farmers market to make a card to give Mom. While shopping for produce for the week, they can get crafty using vegetables as stamps for a colorful, textured, handmade art piece.
Mom skates free
Sunday, 11 a.m.-1 p.m.
Hit the rink at Wheaton Ice Arena, where moms get free entry (normally $9 for ages 5 and up or $7 for those 60 and up). The arena will also have an area where kids can DIY Mother’s Day cards.

Watch the transformation of an iconic Glenstone ‘living’ sculpture
Sunday, 10 a.m.-5 p.m.
Glenstone, Potomac’s otherworldly art museum, is known for its iconic “Split-Rocker” piece: a 37-foot-tall Jeff Koons outdoor sculpture that gets covered in 24,000 planted flowers every spring. This year, the museum is welcoming guests to watch the process, which takes months of planning. Tickets, which are always free, are still available for Sunday, the final day to catch the installation in progress.
