Giant Food to close Nottingham store in August

Giant Food is closing its location in Nottingham.

A sign posted near the entrance to the supermarket at 7920-30 Belair Road announced the store will cease operations on Aug. 6. The store, located in the Putty Hill Plaza shopping center, has served the Baltimore County community for nearly 50 years.

The location will close at 6 p.m. on its last day. The sign directed customers to other Giant supermarkets in the region, including two in Baltimore and two in Parkville.

“In the normal course of evaluating our business and local trade areas, we determined that we can adequately serve this community through several other nearby Giant Food locations, as well as our online services,” Giant spokesperson Jonathan Arons said.

Prescriptions at the store’s pharmacy will be transferred to other Giant locations based on customers’ addresses, Arons said. Customers can also choose to transfer prescriptions to any preferred Giant pharmacy.

Arons said employees at the Nottingham store are “being offered the opportunity to transfer” to other Giant stores.

The chain, which is headquartered in Prince George’s County, has more than 90 locations in Maryland, according to its website. It also has stores in Delaware, Virginia and Washington, D.C.

In 2024, Giant Food closed a store in Edmondson Village, turning the West Baltimore neighborhood into a food desert.
