It’s a match made in heaven — or at least delightful, over-the-top TV hell.
John Waters, Baltimore’s Pope of Trash, is joining the FX TV series “American Horror Story” for its forthcoming 13th season.
“Not allowed to say a word about it except that I’m going to be in it,” Waters said in an email.
The newest season of “American Horror Story” will feature stars like Ariana Grande, Jessica Lange, Sarah Paulson and Angela Bassett. The show, which debuted in 2011, has won 17 Primetime Emmy Awards.
The dark anthology series, created by Ryan Murphy and Brad Falchuk, uses ensemble casts to tell horror stories about ghosts, haunted houses, phobias and other human fears. The most recent season, “American Horror Story: Delicate,” starred Emma Roberts as an actress struggling to start a family. Roberts is returning for Season 13.
Details about the next installment and its plot are scarce. The season will premiere on Halloween, according to a social media post on Ryan Murphy Productions’ Instagram account. FX did not immediately respond to a request for comment and more information.

The upcoming “AHS” season will be Waters’ first. But the 79-year-old Baltimorean known for writing and directing influential films like “Hairspray” and “Serial Mom” has become a memorable character actor over the decades, with appearances on “The Simpsons,” “Law & Order: Special Victims Unit” and “Homicide: Life on the Street.”
Waters recently lent his voice to the animated series “Digman!” and appeared as the stage manager for “Saturday Night Live” cast member Sarah Sherman’s HBO stand-up special. Locally, Waters hosted “A Date With John Waters,” a sold-out show at Baltimore Soundstage on Valentine’s Day.
