Prince George’s County will launch a “fashion week” of events from Sept. 23 to 25.

The three-day event will take place at New Carrollton’s Metro Points Hotel and include runway shows, cultural showcases, and talent and model discovery, according to a press release from the office of County Executive Aisha Braveboy.

“[Prince George’s County Fashion Week] serves as a premier celebration of style, culture, creativity, commerce, and community in one of the most vibrant counties in America,” her office said.

Details about the events were not immediately made available.

County officials sent a callout to designers and sponsors for the festivities. A flyer advertising the effort referred to Uche O’Mak as a point of contact. The Maryland-based fashion designer used to have a shop at the Savage Mill complex.

This is not the first time Braveboy has made fashion a pillar of her economic development plan. In November, she held a news conference to announce the development of a fashion district within the county.

It’s unclear whether further details have emerged, and a spokesperson from Braveboy’s office did not immediately respond to a request for comment about the fashion week and district.

A Facebook post announcing the fashion district prompted commenters to ask for more details on the initiative, including where it would be located.

“I’m a fashion designer who lives and operates in PG County and have for over ten years and I heard absolutely nothing about this,” Aleka Wade wrote.
