A driver was injured after crashing their vehicle into a car wash in Halethorpe on Wednesday morning, shattering a window and closing down the business for the day.

Police responded to reports of the crash around 11 a.m. in the 3500 block of Washington Boulevard, said Joy Lepola-Stewart, a spokesperson for the Baltimore County Police Department.

The driver of the vehicle, described as elderly, was the only person injured, she added. The severity of the driver’s injuries was not immediately known.

Jamila Mitchell, a manager at Halethorpe Auto Spa Express, where the accident occurred, said the car wash was closed for the day, but car vacuums were still available for use.

Another manager said workers thought there was an earthquake when the car crashed because it shook the building.

One of the car wash’s windows was gone. Workers roped off the area as they began cleaning up the glass in the afternoon.

Mitchell said she hoped to reopen Thursday.

The car wash is on the corner of a busy four-lane road in Baltimore County. Across the street sits a busy shopping center, parking garage and a Walmart.
