17-year-old driver killed, 2 critically injured after high-speed chase ends in Randallstown crash

A 17-year-old driver died and two passengers were severely injured when their car hit a tree in Randallstown following a high-speed chase in neighboring Carroll County, authorities said.

Officers responded to a crash involving a 2013 GMC Acadia at the intersection of Liberty and Lyons Mill roads at around 11:15 p.m. The driver, Angel Callejas Fuentes, and two passengers were transported to local hospitals. Callejas Fuentes was pronounced dead at Northwest Hospital, and the two passengers are being treated for life-threatening injuries at the University of Maryland Shock Trauma Center.

Minutes before the crash, Callejas Fuentes’s car was observed by Carroll County sheriff’s deputies traveling faster than 80 mph on Liberty Road/Route 26, where the speed limit is 45 mph. When deputies attempted a traffic stop on Oakland Mills Road in Eldersburg, Callejas Fuentes continued traveling toward Baltimore County “at speeds approaching 100 mph,” according to a statement from the sheriff’s office.

A deputy pursued the vehicle to Holbrook Road, just past the county line, then ended the pursuit and turned around, per departmental procedures, the sheriff’s office said.

Sheriff deputies were notified of the crash soon after and drove to the scene in Randallstown. There, they told responding Baltimore County officers of the earlier pursuit and confirmed it was the same car, a spokesperson for the sheriff’s office said in an email.

Representatives from the Baltimore County Police Department did not have any additional information at this time.

The crash comes two days after a Virginia man was killed in Montgomery County when his car collided with another vehicle driven by a 13-year-old and carrying six other teenagers. Officials reported that the car carrying the teenagers had been reported stolen several hours after the collision.
