One man died and another person was injured in a crash involving two vehicles in Baltimore County on Wednesday afternoon, officials said.

Lawrence Martin Jr., 64, was pronounced dead at the scene, and the other person was transported to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, according to a news release from the Baltimore County Police Department.

Officers responded to the crash at the 1100 block of Mount Carmel Road around 12:05 p.m., according to the news release. Martin was driving a 2011 Honda CR-V traveling eastbound on Mount Carmel Road when he crossed over the center line and collided with a 2004 Dodge Dakota driving the opposite way, officials said.

Investigators shut down parts of Mount Carmel Road in Parkton for hours on Wednesday afternoon to investigate the crash, police said.

The two-lane road is in a rural and residential area near the Gunpowder State Park Trails.

The fatal crash comes days after a 69-year-old man was killed in a hit-and-run in Baltimore County.

Baltimore County had the second-most crash fatalities in Maryland last year — more than 60. According to state data, there have been 13 crash fatalities in Baltimore County this year, second only to Montgomery County’s 14.
