A Bethesda man fatally shot a Baltimore County man and then himself in a murder-suicide Thursday in Washington, police said.
The incident in the Friendship Heights neighborhood occurred at about 1 a.m. in the 5200 block of 44th Street, Northwest, according to a statement from the Metropolitan Police Department.
The suspect arrived at the location, shot the victim and then shot himself, according to police. A firearm was recovered, police said, calling the incident “domestic related.”
Fire and emergency medical service personnel attempted lifesaving measures, but the men were pronounced dead on the scene.
Police identified the suspect as 44-year-old Terrell Cross of Bethesda and the victim as 42-year-old Robert Stokes of Middle River.
Randy Clarke, general manager of the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority, without identifying the men who died, said Thursday during a meeting that they were WMATA employees.
“We tragically lost two members of the WMATA team,” he said. “Our staff is the soul of this organization.”
