The state’s health department alerted Marylanders to a confirmed case of measles Saturday afternoon after a resident returned this week from an international trip.
The Maryland Department of Health said anyone who was at Dulles International Airport on Wednesday from 6-11 a.m. in Concourse C’s international arrivals, on the transportation from the concourse or in baggage claim could have been exposed.
Any visitors at the Mary’s Center Adams Morgan Clinic at 2333 Ontario Road NW in Washington on Wednesday from 4-8:30 p.m. may have had exposure to measles as well.
This is not the first case in Maryland this year. At least three others in the Baltimore area had measles in April.
Measles is a highly contagious disease and can spread through the air or through infected surfaces, according to the health department. Symptoms include high fever, runny nose, cough and watery eyes, according to the news release. A red rash can appear on the face and spread days after other symptoms appear.
Health officials said they are working to identify who may have come in contact with the person and to notify them of exposure.
If you think you may have been exposed, the health department recommends checking your vaccinations and making sure you are immunized against the virus. If you have not received two doses of a measles-mumps-rubella vaccine and you think may have been exposed, health officials say you should call your healthcare provider or the health department and isolate yourself.
