A Montgomery County grand jury indicted the father of a 6-year-old boy who shot himself in the face and died in February, prosecutors said Thursday.
Lascelle Lee, 32, of Upper Marlboro, is charged with involuntary manslaughter, neglect of a minor, reckless endangerment and allowing access to a loaded firearm, according to a statement from the Montgomery County State’s Attorney’s Office.
Lee’s son, Lascelle Lee IV, died Feb. 17 in a home on Maple Leaf Drive in Montgomery Village.
The father is accused of leaving a loaded gun where he knew the child would have access to it, the statement said.
Lee was released Wednesday on his own recognizance during a bench warrant hearing. A hearing to determine trial dates is scheduled April 24, prosecutors said.
Police have called the shooting accidental and said, after the boy shot himself, officers and fire and rescue personnel provided aid but the boy died at the scene.
There was an adult home during the shooting and the gun used in it was legally registered, police said.
It was unclear Thursday afternoon if Lee had retained an attorney.
