Baltimore County Police are investigating a single-vehicle crash in Cockeysville that left one adult dead and three minors injured Friday night.
Officers responded around 9:45 p.m. Friday to the intersection of Poplar Hill Road and Merrymans Mill Road for a reported crash. Officials said the vehicle was heading southbound on Poplar Hill Road when it left the road and struck a tree.
Police said the driver, who is a minor, and one minor passenger suffered life-threatening injuries and were taken to a hospital. A second minor passenger was also hospitalized. An adult passenger was pronounced dead at the scene by a medic. The crash remains under investigation.
By Saturday afternoon, trees arched over the rural back road where the group crashed Friday night. Pieces of a black vehicle, rubber gloves and trash were scattered along the side of the road.
Tire marks indented the dirt and grass where the vehicle skidded off Poplar Hill Road just after a steep bend. At the trunk of a tree, where the bark was chipped off, lay fresh flowers, a crumpled license plate and a Toyota emblem.
Tim and Beth Thompson, who were driving through the neighborhood they have lived in for 22 years, said they heard the “very sad” news.

They said first responders were speeding by their house Friday night.
Tim Thompson said he used to warn his kids before they drove to school in the mornings from their home: “The most dangerous thing you’re going to do today is turn onto Merrymans Mill Road from our house.”
“It’s an easy spot to lose control,” he said, adding that the turn, steep decline and a bush that obstructs the view make it a dicey road.
