3-year-old injured in Baltimore mass shooting was shot in the abdomen, commissioner says

The 3-year-old boy wounded in a mass shooting in East Baltimore earlier this month “is going to deal with these injuries for the rest of his life,” Baltimore Police Commissioner Richard Worley said Wednesday.

“It wasn’t a graze wound,” Worley said during an appearance on WBAL NewsRadio. “He was shot in the abdomen. He had a colostomy bag.”

The child remains hospitalized, said Lindsey Eldridge, a Police Department spokesperson.

Worley lamented that police believe people know who’s responsible for the shooting but have not yet come forward to detectives, leaving them little to work with.

“Tell us who shot the seven people, especially the little guy,” Worley said.

The commissioner said cameras in the area of the shooting at the busy intersection of North Caroline and East Fayette streets helped investigators identify a vehicle involved in the shooting.

He said the shooting was related to “a couple groups of individuals who didn’t get along.”

Law enforcement sources previously told The Banner the violence was related to an ongoing gang feud. The sources said around 40 shots were fired.

“We’ve got some info on it but nowhere near enough to get a suspect involved,” Worley said.

Residents of the communities surrounding the shooting scene were shaken by the violence near their doorsteps.
