Rockdale Park in Windsor Mill will soon become a choose-your-own adventure thanks to an infusion of cash for a makeover by Baltimore County Recreation and Parks.

Are you an avid gardener, part of a rec basketball league or maybe an avid pickleball player? The park is getting a $3 million upgrade to accommodate your recreation needs.

Baltimore County broke ground Friday on the first phase of renovations to the park, which includes the addition of three accessible pickleball courts, an accessible basketball court, improved drainage for the community garden, and an accessible walkway that connects the park to the neighborhood.

“It’s a park for everybody, whether you want to ... walk, farm, play pickleball, whatever you want to do,” County Executive Kathy Klausmeier said.

The county received the $3 million through a grant from the Maryland Department of Natural Resources, county spokesperson Dakarai Turner said.

Klausmeier was joined by Baltimore County Council members Izzy Patoka, Julian Jones and Pat Young, as well as the county’s acting recreation and parks director, Bryan Sheppard.

The project’s first phase will also add amenities such as benches, bike racks, walkways, a drinking fountain and trash and recycling cans.

According to the county’s website, funding for improvements beyond the first phase is not yet available.

If the county secures the necessary funding, future phases would include three additional accessible pickleball courts, an expanded parking lot, shade structures, a new park entrance gate and sign, a remilled entry drive, a pedestrian crossing to the nearby Mayfield community, an asphalt path and wood chip trails.
