A pedestrian was struck and killed by a vehicle early Monday morning in Silver Spring, Montgomery County Police said.

The incident occurred about 2:09 a.m. at the intersection of Veirs Mill Road and Gail Street. Officers found a 39-year-old man, who was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the vehicle that struck the pedestrian remained on the scene, police said.

The department’s Collision Reconstruction Unit is investigating.

Additional information is expected to be released later, including the pedestrian’s name.
