The Annapolis Police Department is investigating apparent human remains found in a wooded section of Truxtun Park, department officials said.

Department spokesperson Bud Zapata said police were notified of the remains shortly before 4 p.m. Tuesday.

The Maryland Office of the Chief Medical Examiner took possession of the remains to attempt to identify the individual and determine a cause of death, police said.

Portions of Truxtun Park may be closed or blocked off because of police activity. Police said there is no known threat to public safety.
