Maryland State Police say two more teenagers have been arrested and charged in a January vehicle shooting in Somerset County that left one man dead and another wounded.
Two boys, ages 14 and 16, have been charged in the attack and were being held at the Somerset County Detention Center without bond, police said in a news release Friday. Both are charged with first-degree felony murder, second-degree murder, robbery and other related counts.
Authorities said the 16-year-old was arrested by the U.S. Marshals Service in Chula Vista, California, on Feb. 4 and extradited to Maryland. State police arrested the 14-year-old six days later in Princess Anne.
Police had already arrested two other suspects, a 17-year-old girl and a 16-year-old-boy from Salisbury, in the double shooting. They continue to be held without bond.
Somerset County sheriff’s deputies and state troopers responded shortly after 2 p.m. Jan. 26 to a shooting in the 11000 block of Dryden Lane in Princess Anne, the release states. They found two men suffering from gunshot wounds inside a 2026 Kia Seltos SUV parked in the roadway.
Derrick Knox, 46, of Salisbury was pronounced dead at the scene. Kevin Pillar, 41, also of Salisbury, was transported to a trauma center by the state police’s aviation command.
The area where the men were found is a residential neighborhood near Greenwood Elementary School. Princess Anne is about 12 miles southwest of Salisbury.
Officials have not clarified the teens’ connection to one another or to the shooting victims. Police said, however, the shootings were “not a random act of violence.”
The state police’s homicide unit is leading the investigation, with assistance from the county sheriff’s office and state’s attorney’s office.
