An employee at the Royal Farms across from Baltimore’s Horseshoe Casino has been arrested in connection to a nonfatal shooting at the store on Aug. 12, police said.

The suspect, 37-year-old Marquece Yarberough of Baltimore, was arrested for allegedly shooting a 41-year-old man at the gas station and store in the 1500 block of Russell Street in downtown, Baltimore Police Department said in a news release.

After arriving on the scene, officers discovered a man suffering from multiple gunshot wounds lying on the ground near a gas pump, according to charging documents. Investigators said that the two men had argued before the shooting but did not know each other.

During the exchange, Yarberough went into the office area of the Royal Farms, retrieved an object from a backpack and went back outside, according to court documents. Soon after, police said, he fired a weapon at the 41-year-old man.

The victim was transported to an area hospital in critical condition. After surgery, he was listed in stable condition but remained intubated, court documents showed.

After being arrested on Friday, Yarberough was transported to the Central Booking Intake Facility where he was charged with attempted first-degree murder, according to the police department.

This same Royal Farms was the scene of a double shooting last year that left Daquan Parker dead. Parker had been acquitted of a murder charge shortly before he died and was killed on the same day his co-defendant went to trial.

Customers who stopped at the Royal Farms were surprised by all of the violence at the location.

“All this is new to me. This is my first time hearing of any type of shooting at this Royal Farms. I thought it was alright,” said Hakim Abdurrahmand, of Baltimore.

“Well, I’m afraid, to be honest with you. I’m glad I wasn’t in the midst of it,” said Robin Offutt, of Washington, D.C.
