A former Prince George’s County firefighter pleaded guilty to possessing and distributing child sexual abuse material, the county’s state’s attorney’s office announced Wednesday.

Joshua Murphy, 36, was sentenced to 40 years in prison, with all but 10 years suspended, and five years of supervised probation, according to a news release. He was arrested in October and charged with multiple counts of possessing and distributing child sexual abuse material.

“Those entrusted with protecting our communities are held to a high standard,” Prince George’s County State’s Attorney Tara Jackson said in the news release. “A firefighter is someone we call when we need help, which makes this defendant’s actions extremely disturbing.”

Some of Murphy’s explicit activity took place at the firehouse in Hyattsville where he worked, NBC4 Washington reported last year. A member of Murphy’s family was among the victims, according to the outlet.
