A 22-year-old man was jailed and held without bond after Baltimore County Police said he told them voices in his head prompted him to kill his brother’s friend.
Police were called to the 3800 block of McDowell Lane just before 5:30 a.m. Tuesday for a “family disturbance,” court documents show. Moments later, a second call from the same location reported a shooting.
A woman told police her son Marquis Tion Richard Washington had shot a 17-year-old boy in their home. The boy was a friend of her other son and staying at their house that night, court documents show.
Police said they found the teenage boy bloodied atop a bunk bed on the home’s second floor. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
The woman said Washington left the gun in the home and fled the scene on foot. Police said they located Washington shortly after and took him into custody.
“Marquis Washington advised that the voices in his head had gotten to him and he snapped,” police wrote.
The woman shared that Washington was diagnosed with bipolar disorder and schizophrenia and received treatment twice a year, according to court documents.
Online court records show Washington faces first-degree murder and firearm charges. A judge ruled Wednesday to hold him without bond. He had no attorney listed online at the time of publication.
