A possible mercury spill in Baltimore County sent six people to the hospital on Friday.

Maryland Department of the Environment officials say a contractor was working on a home in Lutherville when the spill was discovered.

Officials say nobody was injured; however, six people were transported to the hospital for evaluation and decontamination.

The spill occurred around 4 p.m. on the 8600 block of Tower Bridge Way, according to the Baltimore County Fire Department.

The contractor then drove to a hotel in Edgewood, Harford County.

Both the MDE and the Baltimore County Department of Health responded to the scene in Lutherville.

The Joppa Magnolia Volunteer Fire Company and Harford County Department of Emergency Services Hazardous Materials Team were dispatched to the Quality Inn in Edgewood, where the contractor had gone after the spill was discovered.

The cause of the spill is under investigation.
