A man who allegedly stabbed a person in a Silver Spring restaurant’s men’s bathroom last month has been arrested for attempted murder, Montgomery County Police said on Tuesday.

Mark Reginald Melton, 34, of no fixed address, stabbed a person on July 10 at a Caribbean restaurant in the 8200 block of Georgia Avenue.

“The investigation revealed that at approximately 10:34 p.m., Melton entered the men’s restroom and stabbed the victim multiple times before leaving the scene,” police said.

The victim was hospitalized with injuries that were considered life-threatening.

Detectives named Melton as the suspect after reviewing the restaurant’s surveillance footage.

Police obtained an arrest warrant charging Melton with attempted first-degree murder, first-degree assault, second-degree assault and related charges.

The U.S. Marshals’ Capital Area Regional Task Force arrested Melton in Washington, D.C., on Aug. 4, according to court records.

Melton is being held without bond at the Montgomery County Central Processing Unit, police said.

Melton’s public defender was not immediately reached for comment.
