Howard County Police said Wednesday they have charged three men in the fatal shooting of a Salisbury man in a parking lot in Columbia’s Merriweather District in August.
Police charged Montreal Proctor, 26, Damon Simpson Jr., 34, and Talondo Short, 36, all of Baltimore, with first-degree murder, second-degree murder, assault and firearm violations, authorities said in a news release.
On Aug. 19, officers responded to a parking lot off Dove Sail Lane and Merriweather Drive at around 10:35 p.m. and found 39-year-old Leon Grant dead in a vehicle. Grant had been shot multiple times, police said.
Through investigation, detectives confirmed that Grant and Proctor knew each other.
Police said the men met at the Columbia parking lot and that Grant was getting into Proctor’s vehicle when Short and Simpson approached in another vehicle. During the encounter, Grant was shot.
The incident appeared to have been targeted, police have said.
