Boyds man pleads guilty in fatal 2025 car crash

A Boyds man on Wednesday pleaded guilty to charges in connection with a 2025 car crash in Germantown that killed a 71-year-old woman, prosecutors said.

Brody Richardson, 20, pleaded guilty in Montgomery County Circuit Court to one count of grossly negligent manslaughter by motor vehicle, and one count of homicide by motor vehicle while under the influence of alcohol, according to a Thursday statement from the Montgomery County State’s Attorney’s Office.

Richardson, whose sentencing is scheduled for Oct. 30, faces a maximum of seven years in prison.

At about 10:30 on July 21, 2025, Richardson was driving a Mazda 3 northbound on Great Seneca Highway when his vehicle struck a Subaru Forester driven by Mary Elizabeth Moody, who was making a left turn from southbound Great Seneca Highway onto Mateny Road, prosecutors said.

An investigation determined that Richardson’s car was traveling at about 94 mph. He admitted to drinking and using marijuana before driving and had a blood alcohol concentration of .20 when he crashed, prosecutors said.

Surveillance video and a receipt from Travilah Beer & Wine in Rockville showed that Richardson drank five beers between arriving at the business at 6:57 p.m. and departing at 10:17 p.m. Two employees of the store have pleaded guilty to selling alcohol to a person younger than 21. Their sentences are pending, prosecutors said.

Richardson’s private attorney, Andrew Jezic, said his client is “over the top remorseful for his actions,” attends Alcoholic Anonymous every day and is working toward a certification so he can become a drug addiction counselor.
