Montgomery County Police are seeking the public’s help in identifying a black SUV that police say they believe was involved in a hit-and-run that killed a pedestrian on Friday in Silver Spring.

Hanna Wegayehou, 61, of Silver Spring, died following the 1:14 p.m. crash near Crestmoor Drive and Colesville Road, police said on Monday.

Wegayehou was struck by a vehicle while crossing Crestmoor Drive and was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the vehicle fled, police said.

They said they believe the vehicle is a black SUV with tinted windows and front-end or right-front damage. It was last seen about 1:17 p.m. heading northbound on Colesville Road toward New Hampshire Avenue.

The department’s Collision Reconstruction Unit is investigating and is asking anyone with information to call the Montgomery County Police nonemergency line at 301-279-8000.
