A former soccer coach was arrested Wednesday and charged with multiple counts of solicitation and sexual abuse of minors stemming from incidents that allegedly occurred during tournament travel or around practices.
Roberto Carlos Huezo Garcia, 30, of Reisterstown, faces four counts of sexual solicitation of a minor, three counts of indecent exposure to a minor, two counts of displaying obscene material to a minor and one count of continuously sexually abusing a minor, according to online court records.
Garcia coached soccer for multiple private organizations across several jurisdictions, according to a Friday news release from the Baltimore County Police Department. He has since been suspended from coaching.
The incidents took place between the spring of 2025 and early this year, when Garcia was 28 or 29, according to charging documents. Baltimore County detectives interviewed two boys who were 13 and 14 during the alleged misconduct.
The incidents took place during travel for soccer tournaments in Florida, Pennsylvania and Washington state, as well as in Garcia’s vehicle around soccer practices and at residences in Baltimore and Harford counties, according to charging documents.
Garcia has been a soccer coach for a long time, said attorney Tom Maronick of Maronick Law, which is representing Garcia. He is “much respected by his players, their families, other people in the community,” Maronick said on Friday, adding that Garcia is an “upstanding citizen.”
“These are serious allegations, and we don’t take them lightly,” Maronick said. “That said, he’s presumed innocent.”
Maronick said he was unable to comment on Garcia’s employment and declined to say which soccer teams the victims played on. He also declined to say whether other states were investigating Garcia.
According to charging documents, Garcia in multiple instances offered massages to boys who had been playing soccer, then touched the victims’ private areas. He also masturbated alongside the boys, showed them pornography, and offered money and other gifts to see their private areas.
On Friday, police said they had received multiple reports since January alleging sexual misconduct involving Garcia and boys between the ages of 10 and 15.
Jasmine Fleet, a spokesperson for the Baltimore County Police Department, said officers obtained a warrant for Garcia on June 30, and he was arrested Wednesday. He was held without bond. That decision was upheld at a bond review hearing on Thursday.
His next court hearing is scheduled for Sept. 11.
