Marylanders should expect temperatures to rise into the triple digits across the region starting Wednesday, according to the National Weather service.
It won’t be as hot as the Fourth of July weekend, when the weather service issued two extreme heat warnings and the region saw record-breaking high temperatures. But Central Maryland could see a high of 102 on Wednesday and a high of 101 on Thursday. The heat index will be 105 for both days, said Kevin Rodriguez, a meteorologist for the weather service’s Baltimore/Washington office.
The weather service issues an extreme heat warning when the index reaches 110, Rodriguez said.
Scorching heat during the Fourth of July weekend delayed festivities, canceled events and disrupted travel. A powerful line of thunderstorm also caused widespread power outages, leaving about 70,000 people without power.
Temperatures will drop slightly over the weekend into the 90s and 80s as showers are expected to wash over Central Maryland.
