Rainy rest of the week

A high-pressure system off the Atlantic coast is funneling warm and tropical moisture into Maryland, meeting a line of storms coming from Virginia.

The National Weather Service issued a flood watch for parts of the Greater Washington, D.C., region, including Montgomery and Prince George’s counties. Excessive runoff could result in the flooding of rivers, streams and creeks, as well as low-water crossings and other areas with poor drainage.

Much of Central Maryland should expect intermittent showers through Wednesday morning. The rest of the week will be just as wet, with chances of showers and thunderstorms increasing in the afternoon hours, said Katherine Humphrey, a meteorologist for the weather service’s Baltimore/Washington office.

Humidity and hot weather will make the heat index reach up to the high 90s to 100s, Humphrey said.

Highway officials are reminding commuters to be cautious on wet roads. Baltimore Orioles fans attending home games on Wednesday and Thursday should also keep an eye on the weather and possible rain delays.
