The Banner has named Doug Coffelt senior vice president of advertising, bringing an experienced sales leader to the organization as it continues to grow across Maryland.
Coffelt will oversee digital advertising for The Banner, driving revenue strategy and collaborating closely with editorial, marketing and product teams to deliver high-impact solutions for partners. He will report to Banner CEO Bob Cohn.
“Doug has the perfect mix of advertising leadership and entrepreneurial energy,” said Cohn. “His experience in both legacy media and startups make him ideally suited to grow The Banner’s business and help us forge a path to long-term sustainability.”
Coffelt has spent more than 20 years in media sales and advertising, with leadership roles at The Washington Post, Axios, Gannett/USA Today Network, and McClatchy Media. His experience includes building sales teams, developing new client partnerships, launching new products, and growing advertising revenue across local, regional and national markets.
During 16 years at the Post, Coffelt led multiple sales teams and annual revenue exceeding $50 million. At Axios Local, he helped build the advertising business across 34 markets.
“I am incredibly honored to join The Baltimore Banner and lead our commercial operations during such a pivotal time of growth. The Banner has truly set the standard for what a successful new modern media company looks like, and I am proud to lead a team supporting Pulitzer Prize-winning journalism that Marylanders trust and rely on,” said Coffelt.
“As someone with deep roots in Maryland’s business community, it is incredible to return home. I look forward to partnering with our business partners to fuel their growth and advance our local economy as we continue our regional expansion.”
Coffelt earned a master of business administration from George Mason University and a bachelor’s degree in communication management from the University of Dayton.
