Questionnaire

A: Cuts or tax increases are not going to solve our problem. Each year we will be having to do a combination of both just to stay afloat. The problem is the lack of economic growth. From 2016 to 2023, U.S. GDP grew by 13.9%. During that same time, Virginia’s GDP grew by 11.2%, and Pennsylvania’s by 6.6%. Meanwhile, Maryland grew by only 1.6%. If we had grown at the rate of Virginia, we would have no structural deficit. The long-term answer is simple: We have to GROW our economy. That means building more housing, and incentivizing more small businesses to open, stay, and/or relocate to Maryland. We will never be able to cut or tax our way out of this.

A: Energy costs, housing costs, and general cost-of-living for working families.

A: 1) Ensure that data centers pay for themselves, completely. That includes owners paying for the necessary infrastructure to upgrade the grid for both transmission and generation. Also, wind and solar are now beating out coal on price and soon they will be cheaper sources of energy than natural gas. We need more investment in green energy to lower our energy costs, produce more Maryland energy, and reduce carbon emissions.

A: Until we solve our anemic economic growth problem, this will be a constant tough choice for us to face year after year. I don’t have a specific answer to this question because I would need the details of what would be involved in a programmatic “roll back” or a proposed revenue increase.

A: I want to be judged on the quality of the bills that I get passed and the amount of tax dollars I can bring back to the district to help the families of District 33B. But more than anything else, I want constituents to judge me on how often I show up in the community when it’s not election season. Do you see me around local events? Can you come up and talk with me about issues you need help with? These are the things that matter the most: an accessible and available delegate.
