Orioles starter Grayson Rodriguez is tinkering with a new(ish) breaking ball for his repertoire
In 2023, Rodriguez threw a slower slider with similar characteristics to the new sweeper he’s employing. Batters hit just .145 against the offering.
“We’re going to mess around with it, for sure,” Grayson Rodriguez said of his sweeper. “It’s something we’ve been kind of trying over the last couple weeks.”
Orioles closer Félix Bautista is confident he’ll be ready for opening day
“I’m not 100%, but I would say about 85%, and I do think for opening day I would be at 100%,” Bautista said Friday through team interpreter Brandon Quinones.
Félix Bautista was one of the most dominant relievers in baseball in 2023, recording a 1.48 ERA and 33 saves. He missed 2024 after Tommy John surgery.

Jon Meoli: If the Orioles’ offseason is done, what should we make of it?
The Orioles could have an All-Star-caliber performer at every position on the infield, catcher included, and have more outfielders than they’ll know what to do with. The bullpen is full of experience. We’re really just talking about a rotation that has plenty of capable participants and no true ace.
Mike Elias and the front office signed seven major league free agents and are carrying a payroll near $160 million entering camp. But the Orioles still lack an ace.
