The Ravens (4-4) will face the Jacksonville Jaguars (5-2) at 8:15 p.m. Thursday in Baltimore. Here are game predictions from The Banner’s sports staff.

The Jaguars were 10-point favorites as of Wednesday night, according to DraftKings.

Different weight class

Kyle Goon, columnist (5-3): At one time, this looked like the juiciest part of the Ravens’ schedule. Now it’s a bitter reminder of how far this team has fallen. Trevor Lawrence and his hair stand to show Baltimore what a real AFC contender looks like. Props to Joe Fagnano for toughing it out this week for his first career start, but I’ll be surprised if he and the Ravens sustain drives long enough to give the defense a break. At least the country will also be watching in primetime.

Just survive

Giana Han, reporter (4-4): Did you see what the Jaguars did to the Indianapolis Colts? Even with Lamar Jackson, the Ravens didn’t beat up on them so badly. The Ravens just need to get out of this without getting more banged up. Help will arrive after that (although I don’t think that help will make them anything more than a bad team as opposed to a horrible team). Maybe the Ravens score some field goals here, or maybe the defense creates a turnover that turns into points.

A one-sided matchup

Jonas Shaffer, reporter (6-2): “Thursday Night Football” games can create their own special kind of crazy, but the Ravens are double-digit underdogs for a reason — well, a bunch of reasons, actually. On paper, Jacksonville has the advantage in almost every unit-by-unit matchup. The Ravens will need Joe Fagnano and their pass defense to channel their preseason form. Good luck doing that against a Jaguars team that’s playing like a Super Bowl contender.

Short week, long odds

Childs Walker, contributor (4-4): The Jaguars are not the team you want to face four days after suffering a quarterback apocalypse. The Ravens’ offense will be led either by a hobbled Joe Fagnano or by Austin Reed, who last ran Declan Doyle’s plays in August. So you turn to Derrick Henry, right? Perhaps, but Jacksonville’s defense has held opponents to 3.4 yards per carry, best in the NFL. The Jaguars’ interior line is banged up, so they might not be quite at that level Thursday night. But they won’t need to be to limit a Ravens attack that hardly functioned after Lamar Jackson injured his thumb on his first play Sunday.

The Ravens would need a mighty defensive effort to stay competitive, and we haven’t seen them muster anything close to that against a top quarterback. Trevor Lawrence isn’t Josh Allen, but he has been one of the most efficient passers in the league this year, even though his chief target changes from week to week. The Jaguars have been better at home, and a Thursday night road trip is always a difficult assignment. They could be pulled into a messier, closer game than expected. But Ravens fandom is shell-shocked and unlikely to give the home team a raucous boost. There’s no logical reason to pick an upset here.

What are we doing here?

Brandon Weigel, editor (3-5): To express my feelings about this Ravens season, I turn to iconoclast Tommy Wiseau and a quote from his 2003 B-movie classic “The Room,” which he wrote, directed and starred in: “I’m fed up with this world!”
