Luis Robert Jr., whom the Orioles claimed off waivers last week in an attempt to bolster a roster that surprisingly hung around the American League wild card conversation, will be out for at least a week and a half.

The Orioles placed Robert on the 10-day injured list with left hamstring discomfort, the club announced Sunday ahead of the series finale against the Boston Red Sox.

Baltimore made a few roster moves to account for Robert’s injury. The team recalled outfielder Rece Hinds, who is playing left field Sunday against left-hander Payton Tolle.

The Orioles also recalled right-hander Anthony Nunez. They were able to do so before the 15-day, cool-down period following his earlier option to the minors because he replaced an injured player.

To round out the moves, Baltimore designated right-hander Albert Suárez for assignment again, which continues Suárez’s rollercoaster season.

Robert played three games for Baltimore, and he hit 2-for-11 with a double, home run and three RBIs. The first inkling that something was wrong came Sunday morning when Robert wasn’t in the lineup against a left-hander. Instead, Hinds, whom Baltimore acquired in August for cash, was called up to start the finale.

When the Orioles claimed Robert, they took on his $3 million base salary for the final month and will owe him $2 million at the end of the season if they chose to part ways with him. Otherwise, Baltimore could exercise a $20 million club option for 2027.

President of baseball operations Mike Elias credited the Orioles’ ownership group during an appearance on MLB Network for their willingness to add Robert.

“Big signal from the owners that they believe in this team, and we think that Luis is going to help,” Elias said. He added that Robert has “superstar tools” with “enormous” raw power.

Baltimore may not see much of it, should Robert’s injury hold him out too long. There are only 19 games remaining this season.

Robert has a long injury history, including a lumbar spine disc herniation that prevented Robert from playing for three months this year.
