Less than 24 hours before opening day, the Nationals on Wednesday announced their first three channels for local, in-market fans who purchased a Nationals.TV streaming subscription to watch through cable or satellite providers.
Comcast/Xfinity will host Nationals.TV on Channel 1261. For Charter/Spectrum subscribers, games will air on Channel 425, and for Cox subscribers, theyβll appear on Channel 159. There could be more channels through other cable providers as soon as Thursday morning.
On Thursday, the team announced the channels for Verizon/Fios (579) and DirecTV (641). Games are also available on the sports-centric streaming service Fubo.
Fans can purchase in-market streaming packages for Nationals.TV for $99.99 a year or $19.99 per month. In addition to cable networks, fans can stream games through connected devices or on a computer.
If fans living in the Nationalsβ home television territory have an MLB.TV package, they need to purchase a Nationals.TV subscription to watch games. There will be no in-market blackouts for Nationals local broadcasts, though subscribers who attempt to watch while traveling could be subject to opposing teamsβ blackout restrictions.
The Nationals are partnering with MLB this season to broadcast and distribute their games after the team ended its long-running, oft-troubled relationship with the Mid-Atlantic Sports Network.
Ahead of the 2005 season, MLB struck a deal with then-Orioles owner Peter Angelos as the league moved the Montreal Expos to Washington, part of Baltimoreβs territory. The Orioles were awarded the Nationalsβ broadcast rights in perpetuity and a majority stake in the network that aired both teamsβ games.
The two sides feuded over the value of rights fees and went to court for years to settle the dispute. Last March, the teams reached an agreement to terminate the deal. The Nationals gave up their minority stake in MASN but, as a result, gained the right to market their games to any broadcast partner.
Dan Kolko will call play-by-play on Nationals.TV, and Kevin Frandsen will provide color. Alexa Datt will fill multiple roles as the pre- and postgame host and sideline reporter.
