The Commanders spent the early parts of Saturday morning searching for answers on their offensive line.

The team signed three players, hoping Daniel Brunskill, Nicholas Petit-Frere or Max Scharping could give it anything. Head coach Dan Quinn said he wanted to see more competition to elevate the room.

Instead, what Quinn saw Saturday would only increase his concern level with the unit charged with protecting star quarterback Jayden Daniels.

Pro Bowl offensive lineman Laremy Tunsil exited practice after a one-on-one drill with edge rusher Odafe Oweh. Now Tunsil is expected to miss an extended period with a torn triceps muscle, according to multiple reports.

Tunsil is the most experienced player on Washington’s offensive line. He signed a two-year contract extension this spring, making him one of the highest-paid offensive linemen in the NFL.

And his injury just adds to the Commanders’ offensive line woes.

Starting center Nick Allegretti has been out since July 29 with a calf strain. He has practiced just once in training camp and is expected to be out at least another week.

The Commanders added Trey Hill to help at center, but it is very much an experiment.

Replacing Tunsil might be even more difficult than Allegretti. Washington has Brandon Coleman, who has experience at left tackle, on the roster. It could also turn to Andrew Wylie if it wants more of a veteran.

Quinn said Saturday morning that he wasn’t too concerned with the offensive line, even as the team added more players.

Now the calculus has changed before a single preseason game.
