Former President Joe Biden will headline the Maryland Democratic Party’s annual gala next month, an event aimed at raising money and firing up the party faithful.
The former president said in a statement that Maryland Democrats are “doing the work that matters” in building the party and reaching voters.
“I’ve always believed that democracy isn’t a spectator sport,” Biden said.
Since dropping his re-election bid in 2024 and ending his term in January 2025, Biden has been selective about his public appearances.
In February, he spoke to South Carolina Democrats as he marked six years since his important primary win in that state on the road to his 2020 victory in the general election. In his 23-minute speech, Biden thanked South Carolinians for their support, denounced President Donald Trump’s policies and pointed to his own accomplishments.
Biden said that when he was in office, “America knew they had a president who believed in, respected and followed the Constitution.”

Maryland Democratic leaders said they are thrilled to land Biden for their event, officially called the Fight Back & Win Summit and Gala. Planned for June 27 at the Live! Casino & Hotel Maryland in Hanover, the event will pair a day of training workshops for activists and campaign staffers with a gala in the evening.
The gala typically draws hundreds of politicians, advocates and volunteers. This year’s event will be held just days after the June 23 primary election, and Democratic leaders hope it will set the stage for success for their candidates in the November general election.
Last year’s keynote speaker was U.S. Sen. Raphael Warnock of Georgia.
“It is truly an honor to welcome President Joe Biden back to a place where he has given so much,” Maryland Democratic Party Chair Steuart Pittman said in a statement.

Gov. Wes Moore, in a statement, praised Biden for supporting projects in Maryland during his tenure, “a stark contrast from the direct assaults we’re seeing from the Trump Administration in Washington.”
The Maryland Republican Party will hold its own post-primary fundraising event. The GOP’s Red, White and Blue Dinner, scheduled for June 30, will be headlined by Louisiana Gov. Jeff Landry.
