Chief Justice Roberts has reportedly sold his Chevy Chase home for $3.4 million

U.S. Chief Justice John Roberts has reportedly sold his 5,200-square-foot Chevy Chase home for $3.4 million.

The house hit the market June 26 and was under contract four days later, the Washington Business Journal reported July 22.

Roberts and his wife, Jane Roberts, purchased the house in 2003, the year he joined the United States Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit, for $1.23 million.

They raised their two children there and have been parishioners of Bethesda’s Church of the Little Flower, a Catholic congregation on Massachusetts Avenue.

According to the listing obtained by The Banner, the colonial home was built in 1923 and includes seven bedrooms and 4.5 bathrooms. It sits on a quarter acre on a leafy street about a mile from the Washington line.

The four-level house has an open floor plan, according to the listing, and includes a walk-in closet, a walk-in shower, a sound system, two fireplaces, a butler’s pantry, a breakfast room, a 198-square-foot home office, a storage room, a Sub-Zero refrigerator and Wolf appliances.

According to Homes.com data, Roberts’ house sold for more than the average listing price for Chevy Chase homes this year, just under $2 million.

Roberts isn’t the only Montgomery County resident on the nation’s highest court. Justices Neil Gorsuch and Brett Kavanaugh also live in Chevy Chase. Their homes have attracted demonstrators following controversial court rulings.

After the court overturned Roe v. Wade in 2022, for example, protesters blasted the ruling outside the three justices’ homes as Montgomery County Police patrolled their streets.

In October 2025, a California man was sentenced to eight years in prison for breaking into Kavanaugh’s house in June 2022 with the intent to murder the justice.

Following the incident, Congress adopted the Supreme Court Police Parity Act of 2022, which allows the court to deploy security for justices and their families at their homes.

The house was listed by Muffin Lynham of Washington Fine Properties. The unidentified buyer is represented by Kristina Temple of Compass Inc. Neither responded to requests for comment from The Banner on Thursday.

Roberts and his wife also own a 1,560-square-foot vacation home on Hupper Island, Maine, which they purchased in 2006 and upgraded in 2016.
