Although they lost to Northern-Calvert, 3-1, in Monday’s Class 3A state semifinals, the No. 2 Cardinals took another step forward after falling in the state quarterfinals last year.

Wildcats earn the right to play for their third consecutive state title
Arundel’s Audrey Owens (4), Taylor Johnson (3) and Emily Liu (6) led the undefeated No. 1 Wildcats to a sweep of Bowie in the Class 4A state volleyball semifinals Monday night. Johnson had eight kills, Liu had 21 assists and Liu and Owens combined for 16 aces. The Wildcats will go for their third straight championship when they meet Urbana in the title match Wednesday night at Harford Community College.
