All but one of Maryland’s congressional incumbents cruised to victory Tuesday, with Democratic Senator Chris Van Hollen fending off a challenge from Republican Chris Chaffee and Congressman Andy Harris— the lone Republican in the state’s congressional delegation— besting Democrat Heather Mizeur.

Democrats Mike Ertel and state Del. Pat Young have prevailed in races for Baltimore County Council’s two open seats in the central 6th District and the southwestern 1st District.

While four races were contested, Chair Julie Henn, Vice Chair Rod McMillion and council member Christina Pumphrey each faced no opposition in their respective bids.

Olszewski claimed 59% of the vote after almost 190,000 mailed, early and Election Day ballots were counted as of 11 p.m. Tuesday — too far ahead for conservative radio talk show host McDonough to catch up.

Democrat Wes Moore has made history in Maryland as the state's first Black governor-elect, according to a race call by the Associated Press. He is only the third Black governor elected in the country. Moore's win puts the governorship back in Democrats' hands after two terms of Republican Gov. Larry Hogan, one of the country's most popular governors. Polling before the election showed Moore with a double-digit lead over his Republican opponent, Maryland Del. Dan Cox, a far-right lawmaker, had received a coveted and polarizing endorsement from former President Donald Trump.
