ThriftBooks, an online bookseller, is closing its warehouse in Baltimore County and laying off more than 135 workers later this year, according to a notice filed this week with the Maryland Department of Labor.
The world’s largest independent used book reseller, ThriftBooks operates a 120,000-square-foot warehouse in Halethorpe. According to the notice, the company will cease operations at the facility at the end of October.
The location is expected to become available for leasing in February, according to a brochure for the property by JLL, a commercial real estate company.
ThriftBooks did not respond to requests for comment.
The company was founded in 2003 and is headquartered near Seattle.
It started selling products on Amazon, which is the world’s largest bookseller, and on eBay, an online marketplace. Though the company has its own website, ThriftBooks has sold more than 21.2 million items on eBay since 2015.
