A new Trader Joe’s is coming to Baltimore.
The national grocery store chain is opening its 12th store in Maryland by taking over the former 12,200-square-foot Party City location at the Anneslie Shopping Center at 6311 York Rd.
Trader Joe’s announced the new location Thursday but has not shared a date for the store’s opening.
“Typically stores are added to our website three to six months before they open,” Nakia Rohde, a spokesperson for Trader Joe’s, said in an email.
Many Baltimore City residents have long vied for the California-based chain. They’re getting one — but just barely. The store will sit right on the City-County line in north Baltimore’s Lake Walker neighborhood.
Trader Joe’s is known for its wide selection of affordable fresh and frozen foods, as well as organic, vegan and vegetarian options. Some locations sell wine and beer; however, this location will not.
Trader Joe’s will share more than 300 parking spaces with the other tenants of the Anneslie Shopping Center, including Petco, an M&T Bank branch, MedStar Health Urgent Care, Panera Bread and others.
The York Road location became available last February after Party City filed for Chapter 7 bankruptcy in 2023 and closed all of its locations the following years.
The grocery store chain was founded in 1967 and shares an owner with Aldi, a popular low-cost German grocery store chain. There are more than 600 Trader Joe’s stores nationwide.
Trader Joe’s was the second-cheapest grocery chain in the region, an analysis by The Banner found. It was beaten out for the top spot by its sister company, Aldi.
