Marylanders hoping to order groceries from the websites and apps of Giant Food and Food Lion have been out of luck this week. Parent company Ahold Delhaize, which also owns Stop & Shop and Hannaford, said it took some of its systems offline as it deals with a “cybersecurity incident.”
“Ahold Delhaize is experiencing a security issue within its network,” the multinational grocery retailer said in a statement Monday. “Our teams are taking steps to assess and mitigate the issue.”
The company on Tuesday didn’t respond to a request for comment on whether customer data or in-store operations were affected.
There are 52 Food Lion and 94 Giant locations across Maryland. Giant’s headquarters are in Landover.
Stores and pharmacies remain open for their normal hours, according to a message displayed when the businesses’ apps are opened. Area stores reached Tuesday morning declined to comment on how the issue was affecting customers.
In November 2024, Ahold Delhaize USA suffered a cyberattack that exposed the data of over 2 million people.
