Local bands, restaurants, breweries and thousands of Montgomery County residents are taking over Sligo Creek Parkway this weekend for the third annual Sligo Creek Fest.

The free, family-friendly outdoor festival is a spring celebration that’s part of Montgomery Parks’ Open Parkway Program, which closes a few parkways, including Sligo Creek, on the weekends to encourage walkers, runners and cyclists.

“Public spaces are foundational to a democracy and a healthy society,” said Parks Director Miti Figueredo. “You’re around people like yourself, but you’re also around people who speak other languages and come from other backgrounds, and that’s really important.”

Musicians will take over three stages spread throughout the closed Sligo Creek Parkway across the main stage, acoustic stage and kids’ stage. DMV-native ten-piece “eclectic soul” ensemble DuPont Brass, rock band Capital Effect and Baltimore vocalist Amy Andrews are among the performance highlights.
