7 things to do in the capital region, from Restaurant Week to a Dolly Parton tribute

Here’s your chance to finally try out that restaurant you’ve been meaning to visit.

Metropolitan Washington Restaurant Week returns this week, offering prix fixe menus at discounted prices now through Sunday at participating spots around the D.C., Maryland and Virginia area.

The Restaurant Association of Metropolitan Washington’s biannual restaurant week — they also host one in late January to early February between the busy holiday season and Valentine’s Day — aims to give restaurants a boost during notoriously slow times for the industry.

Some participating Montgomery and Prince George’s County restaurants include:

• Caruso’s Grocery (North Bethesda)
• Duke’s Grocery (Potomac)
• Lia’s (Bethesda/Chevy Chase)
• Milk and Honey (multiple locations, including Bowie and College Park)
• Salt and Vine (Olney)
• The Food Market (Bethesda)
• Era Wine Bar (Mount Rainier)

Brunch and lunch ranges from $25-$35; Dinner ranges from $40-$60.

A culinary tribute to Dolly Parton

Now through Friday

Scratch Kitchen and Bistro in Olney is serving up a Dolly Parton-inspired dish for a good cause: a limited-edition Jolene French toast, made with a vanilla custard stuffing, strawberries, whipped cream and optional Nutella. All proceeds from the dish will be donated to the Imagination Library of Montgomery County, an affiliate of Parton’s Imagination Library organization that sends free monthly books to children under 5 years old. Bonus: Guests wearing pink or a cowboy hat get a free cup of coffee or iced latte with any purchase.

A David Bowie tribute concert

Friday from 8-11 p.m.

The Olney Theatre Center for the Arts is putting on “The Ultimate David Bowie Experience,” a live multimedia spectacle featuring elaborate costumes and staging that take audiences through the music icon’s career.

Tickets range from $30-$62.

A sensory-friendly butterfly experience

Saturday from 9-10 a.m.

Brookside Gardens’ summer butterfly experience is winding down (its final day for visitors is Monday, Sept. 7). But first, the Wheaton-based park is hosting its last sensory-friendly butterfly morning, which allows guests with sensory challenges to enjoy their visit under lower lighting and among smaller crowds.

Tickets are free for kids under 3, $11 for ages 3-12, and $16 for ages 13 and up.

A day of celebrating baseball history

Saturday at 10 a.m.

The Negro League Legends Hall of Fame is hosting its annual East-West All-Stars Vintage Baseball Game at Prince George’s Stadium in Bowie, honoring the 93rd anniversary of the historic league’s All-Star game. Players will don throwback uniforms and highlight the Negro League’s lasting impact on baseball. An antique and vintage car show opens at 10 a.m.; game gates open at noon.

Tickets and parking are free.

Movie night on the harbor

Sunday from 6-8 p.m.

Celebrate surviving the first week back at school with a family outing to the National Harbor Plaza for a free screening of the 1994 family sports comedy “Little Giants.” Bring your own chairs, blankets and food.

Entry is free.

A free yoga class

Tuesday from 8:30-9:30 a.m.

Before outside activities wind down this fall, you can catch the Prince George’s County Parks and Recreation department’s final outdoor yoga class at Watkins Regional Park, which features basic yoga positions and a meditation segment. Participants must be 13 or older.

Registration is free.
