A local nonprofit is offering free rides this Halloween weekend to help keep revelers safe.
On Friday and Saturday nights, Halloween partiers 21 and older can get a Lyft ride at no cost, up to $15, through the nonprofit Washington Regional Alcohol Program’s SoberRide initiative, which aims to keep impaired drivers off the road.
WRAP will post Lyft promo codes on its website Friday and Saturday at 9 p.m. Users can redeem one code each day between 10 p.m. and 4 a.m. under the app’s “Payment” tab.
The promo is offered to those within Lyft’s Greater Washington coverage area, which includes D.C., several Northern Virginia counties and “nearly full coverage” of Montgomery and Prince George’s counties, as long as drivers are available, WRAP President and CEO Kurt Gregory Erickson told The Banner.
Half the car crashes in which people ages 21 to 34 were killed around Halloween in the U.S. between 2019 and 2024 involved drunk drivers, according to National Highway Traffic Safety Administration data.
“We hope to empower our community with the tools to protect themselves and those around them this holiday season,” said Kamillah Wood, director of public policy for community safety at Lyft, in a news release.

The SoberRide program, which WRAP has offered since 1991, sponsored 4,056 rides last Halloween, a record for the group. In total, the organization has provided more than 105,000 free rides in the D.C. area in the last 35 years.
WRAP also offers SoberRide codes for the winter holidays, including New Year’s, and Super Bowl Sunday, St. Patrick’s Day, Cinco de Mayo and the Fourth of July.
