The Federal Aviation Administration said its investigating a minor collision between two Southwest Airlines planes at Baltimore-Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport on Monday.
The planes “clipped wings” while leaving their gates at BWI around 10:30 p.m., according to a FAA statement, adding that the collision happened in an area where “air traffic controllers do not communicate with flight crews.”
Southwest Airlines said in a statement that no injuries were reported. The airline removed the two planes from service and placed its customers onto other aircraft to fly to their destinations, according to the Southwest statement.
“Southwest is reviewing the event through its robust Safety Management System,” said Southwest Airlines. “Nothing is more important to Southwest than the Safety of our Customers and Employees.”
The two flights were Southwest Airlines Flights 1048 and 562. Both planes had minor damage, according to Southwest.
