A teenage boy was shot on the Prince George’s Community College campus, prompting a lockdown of the school and of the nearby Largo High School, according to police.

Just before noon on Thursday, authorities received notice that the teen walked into a medical center with a gunshot wound. He is in stable condition, according to police.

The temporary lockdown at the community college was lifted just before 2:30 p.m.; the lockdown at the high school, which is across the street, remained in effect until dismissal.

“We do believe that this shooting was targeted; it was not random,” Prince George’s County Police Chief George Nader said at a press briefing Thursday afternoon.

He said officers are working to confirm where the teenager attends school and declined to share additional details from their interview with him.

“We don’t know why this individual got into an argument and ended up being involved in a shooting, but it’s something we believe will come forward when we complete our investigation,” Nader said.

Police have not arrested anyone or recovered a weapon; Nader said there is no active threat to the surrounding community at this time.

“We believe we will have closure to this case,” Nader said.
