A school bus driver died Tuesday after suffering a medical emergency and crashing into a utility pole in Montgomery County, police said.
No students were on the school bus when it crashed, according to the Montgomery County Police Department.
The driver hit the pole near the intersection on Central Avenue off Maryland Route 355 in Gaithersburg just after 3 p.m., police said. The driver was pronounced dead at the scene.
Parts of Central Avenue were closed while police investigated the incident on Tuesday afternoon. NBC4 Washington footage from the crash site shows the bus off the road under a canopy of trees. The vehicle appears to be a Montgomery County Public Schools bus.
Details about the driver were not released by police.
