Maryland State Police are investigating the death of an 18-year-old who drove into a pickup truck being towed on I-495 on Sunday and then fled from his vehicle and jumped from an overpass in Kensington.

Police did not immediately release the identity of the deceased person, who was male.

Troopers were dispatched to a crash on the outer loop of the Capital Beltway past Georgia Avenue about 7 p.m., state police said in a statement Monday. Heading toward the scene, they received reports of a person wearing gray pants and no shirt running northbound toward the Connecticut Avenue exit.

He was driving a Ford Fusion when he struck a passengerless Chevrolet pickup attached to a tow truck. There were no reported injuries in that collision, state police said.

Witnesses told investigators they saw the driver running from the Fusion. A trooper saw the man jump over the railing onto Stoney Brook Drive.

The drop from the railing is about 50 feet. The trooper attempted life-saving measures, but the man was pronounced dead, state police said.
