The home explosion on Green Holly Drive that left one person dead and another in critical condition was “accidental in nature,” according to a preliminary investigation by the Anne Arundel County Fire Department.

Officers are still investigating the cause of the incident, which shocked the Cape St. Claire neighborhood on Wednesday, the department said in a statement on its website. The explosion blew debris across the yard of the home.

Linda Synowczynski, 76, who owned the home with her husband Stanley, died on the scene as a result of the explosion. He remains in critical condition in the burn unit at Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center.

Several other people, including neighbors and a police officer, suffered minor injuries in the response.

Despite the concerns of neighbors who witnessed a gas company making a propane delivery to the Synowczynski’s residence shortly before the incident, investigators determined Thursday that the business was not responsible for the blast, the department statement said. Officials declined to name the company, saying that it’s no longer involved in the investigation.
