Baltimore County fire crews responded Thursday evening to a fire on an Amtrak train car in Essex.

Crews responded at around 5:51 p.m. to a train that had stopped near Canberra Drive and Waterview Way, bringing a pause to train traffic.

At least 25 people were evacuated, and at least two people were treated for minor injuries, the fire department said in a social media post.

“We cannot confirm a cause of the fire at this time,” wrote Kasey Thomas, a spokesperson for the Baltimore County Fire Department, in an email Thursday evening.

The department reported later that the fire had been extinguished by 6:30 p.m., with the evacuated passengers returned to the train, including one with minor injuries.

The train then continued on to its next stop.
